What is a Classic Mule Deer?

A classic mule deer is a buck that will score less than 150 B & C and is usually a six to nine-pointer.  Classic bucks will be 3 1/2 years of age and older.

During the 2 ½ day hunt, the hunter will see a large number of bucks and does and truly be amazed at the amount of wildlife he sees.  We want you to have and enjoy the “hunt of a lifetime” experience.  True, we are marketing mule deer, but what we are really marketing is a camping and hunting experience not found anywhere else in Texas or the Southwest.  We have been managing mule deer aggressively for almost 20 years and we think that due to that management, our numbers and quality of mule deer are as good or better than anywhere in the Southwest.  We strive to make our service and food the very best.

Your Hunt

Guides and field transportation will be furnished (two hunters per guide).  Hunting will be from hunting vehicles and blinds.  Very little walking will be done.  When a hunter is in a blind, it will be a one on one situation.

We leave camp at first light or a little before after a hardy breakfast, and hunt until 10:30 or 11:00 am.  We return to camp for lunch.  In the afternoons we try to be back out in the field no later than 3 pm and hunt until dark.  Once the hunter has harvested his deer, it is field-dressed by the guide, hung, skinned and quartered.  The deer are hung in a cooler until the hunter is ready to depart.  After a hunter’s deer is harvested, he/she can then harvest a doe for meat if desired (if we have sufficient doe permits).

Our Facilities

We have an African-style tent camp with indoor bathrooms including showers with hot water and plenty of water pressure.  Three meals per day are cooked in our kitchen tent and dining is buffet-style in the dining tent.  The heated sleeping tents are double-occupancy and hunters are responsible for bringing their own PILLOWS AND SLEEPING BAGS.  Besides pillows and sleeping bags, each hunter needs to bring his/her hunting license* (and Hunter Education Certificate, if applicable), rifle, shells, binoculars, camera, flashlight, ice and ice chests (for their meat), layered clothing (temps range from teens to 80’s), personal toiletries and alcoholic beverages (if desired) to enjoy after the hunting.  (*Non-resident hunting licenses are $300.00 for the 2009 hunting season.)

Booking Your Hunt

To book your hunt:  The cost for this hunt is $3,250.00* per hunter with 50% required at time of booking to hold your spot(s) (non-refundable); and the balance due at least ten days before your scheduled hunting date.  When we book a group** (minimum of six) and a member of that group drops out, we lose money unless the group can fill the spot (which is alright with us).  The money we lose is the second half of the $3,250 fee.  Because it is a group, we can’t/won’t bring in an outside hunter to fill the spot.  One must understand that we do have fixed costs in guides, vehicles, equipment, supplies and food; and when someone backs out at the last minute, we have already incurred those costs.  (*  Prices and terms subject to change.  **When groups of six or more are booked, there will be no other outside hunters on the ranch at that time.)

Additional Hunting Opportunities

We also offer trophy aoudad and javelina hunts.  The cost to harvest a trophy aoudad is $4,000.00.  If you wish to take your aoudad during your classic mule deer hunt, the cost is discounted to $3,500.00.  Javelina hunts are $350.00, limit of two javelina per person.  LONG RANGE (1,000 yds.) hunting opportunities or target shooting are also available.
